GISAID reports that the number of Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 31,383 as of Tuesday, December 27, 2022. This represents a 76-case increase compared to the previous day and a 2.49 percent weekly growth.
This number of Omicron cases places Indonesia first in Southeast Asia. Malaysia, with 25,522 cases, has the second-highest number of Omicron cases in the region.
Thailand is in third place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in Thailand grew by 3.85 percent. The daily number of Omicron cases in Thailand yesterday was 21,784. In Singapore, the number of Omicron cases increased by 1.06 percent to 17,000 compared to the previous week. In the Philippines, the number of Omicron cases decreased by 0.04 percent to 12,129 compared to the previous week, and in Vietnam, the number increased by 2.22 percent to 4,791 compared to the previous week.
GISAID's report also states that it has detected a total of 6.98 million Omicron variant Covid-19 cases worldwide. This is an increase compared to the previous week's total of 6.89 million cases.
