Based on data from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud), the percentage of elementary school (SD) classrooms in good condition in Jakarta reached 44.48% of the total 12,819 SD classrooms in 2020. This percentage is the highest compared to other provinces in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, 50.03% of SD classrooms in Jakarta are in slightly damaged condition. The remainder, 3.22%, are moderately damaged, and 2.28% are severely damaged.
The next highest percentage of SD classrooms in good condition is in the Riau Islands, at 29.74%. The majority, or 59.2%, of SD classrooms in that region are in slightly damaged condition, 7.47% are moderately damaged, and 3.59% are severely damaged.
Furthermore, Bali has 22.32% of SD classrooms in good condition. 66.09% of SD classrooms in Bali are in slightly damaged condition, 8.07% are moderately damaged, and 3.52% are severely damaged.
Next, East Kalimantan has 22.09% of SD classrooms in good condition. Classrooms in that region that are in slightly damaged condition account for 66.13%, 7.9% are moderately damaged, and 3.88% are severely damaged.
In Bangka Belitung, 21.65% of SD classrooms are in good condition. 61.09% are in slightly damaged condition, 10.89% are moderately damaged, and 6.36% are severely damaged.
The percentage of SD classrooms in good condition across all provinces in Indonesia is still below 50%. This means that many SD classrooms in Indonesia are in damaged condition.
Classroom damage certainly disrupts teaching and learning activities at schools. Therefore, government efforts are needed to evaluate schools experiencing damage, even severe damage.
