The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.54 million cases by Wednesday, January 4, 2023. According to GISAID data, the United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with 2.07 million cases. This represents 45.55 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Germany follows, reporting a 0.7 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 0.04 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
France reported 318,790 Omicron cases (a 1.2% increase), Japan reported 317,280 cases (a 1.03% increase), and Canada reported 226,630 cases (a 1.7% increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 31,764, a 0.86 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
