South Sumatra's Air Quality on Tuesday Morning (Jan 27) Worst in Indonesia

Air quality in South Sumatra this morning is the worst in Indonesia. Based on the Air Pollution Standard Index (APSI) page of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) on Tuesday (January 27, 2026) at 10:00 AM WIB, it was revealed that the air quality index in South Sumatra was 99.

According to the KLHK Directorate of Air Pollution Control, APSI is a dimensionless number used to describe ambient air quality conditions at a certain location and is based on its impact on human health, aesthetic value, and other living things.

APSI calculation is based on the measurement results of seven air pollutant parameters, namely PM10, PM2.5, NO2, SO2, CO, O3, and HC. Measurements of air pollutant parameters are spread across 72 stations in various regions.

Based on KLHK Regulation No. 14 of 2020 concerning the Air Pollution Standard Index, an APSI in the range of 0-50 indicates good air quality, 51-100 means moderate air quality, and 101-200 indicates unhealthy air quality that is detrimental to humans, animals, and plants.

Furthermore, very unhealthy air quality in the range of 201-300 can increase health risks for sensitive groups. Meanwhile, hazardous air quality in the range of over 300 can seriously harm health and requires quick action.

Below South Sumatra, Banten ranks second worst in Indonesia with an air quality index of 95. Then, West Java is in third place with an air quality index of 93.

This means no region has hazardous air quality.

2. Banten: 95

3. Jawa Barat: 93

4. Riau: 89

5. Kalimantan Barat: 88

6. Aceh: 83

7. Suamtera Utara: 79

8. Sumatera Utara: 78

9. Kalimantan Tengah: 77

10. Lampung: 74
