In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Israel, Hong Kong, India, Japan, and Thailand. The total deaths in these five countries as of Saturday, April 22, 2023, amounted to 369, with weekly growth above 0 percent.
Israel ranks first with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 4,800 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 49 deaths, an increase compared to the previous week's reported single death.
Hong Kong follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 83.33 percent. Daily death figures in this country increased by 37.5% compared to the previous day's eight deaths.
Next, India with 167 deaths (up 51.82%), deaths in Japan increased by 1.45%, and deaths in Thailand decreased by 0%.
Looking at the number of death reports, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in India with 167 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 51.82% compared to the previous week. Following the largest number, deaths in Japan were recorded at 140 (up 1.45%), Indonesia with 60 deaths (down 6.25%), Israel with 49 deaths (up 4,800%), and South Korea with 42 deaths (down 12.5%).
Total COVID-19 deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 492. This accounts for 19.6 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 2,510. The death toll in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 407 deaths.
