The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.51 million cases by Monday, December 19, 2022. Oman recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 31.19 percent. GISAID recorded 143 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 15.32 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Venezuela, which recorded a 16.13 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 16.13 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Brunei Darussalam increased by 10 percent to 3,794 cases compared to the previous week; Omicron cases in Sweden increased by 3.79 percent to 82,628 cases compared to the previous week; and Omicron cases in Japan increased by 3.74 percent to 300,060 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 30,621, showing a 0 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
