The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 2.64 million cases by Monday, November 14, 2022. Indonesia recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 3.87 percent. GISAID recorded 26,508 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases increased by 0.23 percent compared to the previous day.
Mexico followed with a three percent weekly growth in Omicron cases. The country reported 33,534 new Omicron cases. Daily statistics show a 0.01 percent increase compared to the previous day, with 33,531 cases recorded.
Next, new Omicron cases in Italy increased by 1.97 percent to 62,678 compared to the previous week, South Africa with 20,900 new Omicron cases (up 1.26%), and Spain with a 1.24 percent increase to 71,593 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, Indonesia recorded 26,508 new Omicron cases, a 0.23 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
