The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to accelerate its Covid-19 vaccination program. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reports that 19.6% of respondents in Jakarta admitted to receiving the vaccine because they were instructed to do so by their workplace, superiors, or the government. Nevertheless, public awareness in Jakarta regarding the vaccination program is quite good.
78% of respondents are aware that the vaccine is important for self-protection against Covid-19 transmission. Furthermore, 2.4% stated they were vaccinated due to a recommendation from a healthcare professional.
On the other hand, some respondents have yet to be vaccinated. The most common reasons relate to scheduling and access: 26.4% of respondents already have a vaccination schedule, and 12.4% are still looking for locations with available vaccination quotas.
Vaccination is crucial for reducing the risks associated with the coronavirus, such as minimizing deaths and severe symptoms. However, 15.2% of respondents are unwilling due to concerns about side effects, and 2.1% do not believe in the vaccine's effectiveness.
Therefore, the government needs to improve public awareness regarding the benefits and safety of the vaccine. Furthermore, the public can play a role in encouraging relatives to participate in the vaccination program.
The survey was conducted from July 13th to 20th, 2021, involving 18,176 respondents aged 17 and above. The method used was non-probability sampling, distributed through a chain referral system.
