East Java Became the Nation's Largest Rose Production Center in 2020

East Java Province is the largest rose production center in Indonesia. According to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the amount of rose production in East Java reached 105.6 million stems in 2020.

Central Java followed with rose production amounting to 20.5 million stems. Next was West Java with 18.7 million stems, North Sumatra with 1.86 million stems, and East Kalimantan with 329,400 stems.

Of the 12 ornamental plants most widely produced in Indonesia, roses ranked second as the ornamental plant with the highest production volume. Total national rose production reached 147.66 million stems in 2020. Chrysanthemums ranked first with a production of 383.4 million stems.

The rose production center in East Java is located in Batu City, Malang. Its productivity last year reached 55.5 million stems from a harvested land area of 1.46 million square meters. Sub-districts known as rose centers in Batu City include Bumiaji, Batu, and Junrejo.

The market share of roses from Batu City includes major cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Solo, and Semarang. It not only meets local market demand, but rose exports are also increasingly promising due to high demand, especially from Japan.
