According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia produced 641,700 tons of cocoa beans in 2023. This volume is down 1.36% year-on-year (yoy).
Indonesia's cocoa production is predominantly concentrated in the provinces of Sulawesi and Sumatra.
Central Sulawesi was the largest cocoa-producing province in 2023, with a production volume of 130,800 tons, or 20.38% of national total production.
The second to fourth positions are also occupied by provinces from Sulawesi: Southeast Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, and West Sulawesi.
Sumatran provinces also feature in the top 10 cocoa producers, with Lampung, North Sumatra, Aceh, and West Sumatra ranking fifth to eighth.
The lowest cocoa production came from South Kalimantan, at only 100 tons.
On the other hand, six provinces recorded zero cocoa production in 2023: Riau Islands, Jakarta, Southwest Papua, South Papua, Central Papua, and Highland Papua.
