Based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), the total length of roads in Indonesia reaches 537,838 kilometers (km). This comprises 47,017 km of national roads (under the authority of the central government), 55,416 km under the authority of provincial governments, and 435,405 km under the authority of regency/city governments.
Based on road condition, 180,244 km, or 33.5 percent of roads in Indonesia, are in a damaged state. This includes 86,605 km in damaged condition and 93,619 km in severely damaged condition. Roads in fair condition total 115,127 km (21.4 percent), while those in good condition total 242,487 km (45 percent).
Meanwhile, based on surface type, 326,629 km (60.7 percent) of roads in Indonesia are paved with asphalt, 179,457 km (33.37 percent) are gravel and earth roads, and the remaining 31,752 km (5.9 percent) have other surface types.
