Data from the Indonesian National Police's Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) recorded 100,028 traffic accidents in Indonesia in 2020. This figure represents a 14% decrease compared to the previous year's 116,411 cases.
Korlantas Polri also recorded 113,518 minor injuries resulting from traffic accidents in 2020, a 45% decrease from 206,447 victims in 2019. Meanwhile, serious injuries totaled 10,751 in 2020, down 14% from 12,475 in 2019.
Traffic accident fatalities totaled 23,529 in 2020, an 8% decrease from the previous year's 25,671 victims.
This translates to an average of 1,960 traffic fatalities per month. The average daily death toll was 65, or 2-3 deaths per hour.
To reduce the number of accidents, Korlantas Polri has prepared four steps. First, Korlantas will optimize the collection of traffic accident coordinate data to compile an accurate history of accident locations.
Second, Korlantas will identify and recommend measures for accident-prone areas or black spots. Third, traffic violators will be dealt with professionally. Fourth, education for road users will be enhanced.
