In November 2022, wholesale sales volume of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the domestic market reached 1,965 units.
Although slightly down from the previous month, this volume is still significantly higher than wholesale sales throughout the first half of 2022.
Data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) shows a significant strengthening trend in electric vehicle sales in the domestic market starting in the third quarter of 2022, as seen in the graph.
The electric vehicle with the highest wholesale sales was the Wuling Air EV Long Range. This mini electric car, priced around Rp295 million, sold 1,492 units in November 2022.
Second was the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Signature Extended. This car, priced above Rp800 million, recorded 286 wholesale units sold in November 2022.
Electric vehicle sales are also expected to continue strengthening in the coming years. This is because the government is currently preparing a policy for an Rp80 million subsidy per electric vehicle unit.
However, this subsidy is planned to be given only to electric vehicles produced domestically.
According to Gaikindo data, until November 2022, only two electric vehicle manufacturers were producing in Indonesia: Hyundai and Wuling.
Meanwhile, other electric vehicle brands such as Nissan, Lexus, Mini Cooper, Toyota, and DFSK are imported from various countries including Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and China.
