The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) recorded a significant decrease in the number of accidents during the 2019 Eid exodus and return compared to 2018. Imran Rasyid, Secretary of the Inspector General of the Ministry of Transportation, explained that this decrease in the number of accidents is a result of traffic policies such as one-way and contraflow systems. These policies made traffic flow safer, smoother, and more controlled.
These accident figures refer to data available up to H+2 of Eid al-Fitr, Saturday (June 8th). The number of accidents during the 2019 exodus was 509, down 64% or 892 compared to 2018, which reached 1,401. This decrease in the number of accidents was also accompanied by a decrease in the number of victims. The number of fatalities in 2019 was 120, down 198 compared to 2018, which reached 318.
Meanwhile, the number of people seriously injured during the 2019 exodus was 95, down 269 compared to 2018, which reached 364. The highest number of casualties during the 2019 exodus were those with minor injuries, reaching 615. However, this figure is significantly down by 1,290 compared to the previous period, which was 1,905.
