The government has confirmed that it will provide assistance to the families of victims involved in the collision between a KRL Commuter Line train and the long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (April 27, 2026).
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf said the government is still conducting assessments for families affected by the accident.
“We will carry out assessments, and the results will be followed up with support programs. This may include empowerment assistance and other forms of support needed by the victims’ families,” Saifullah said in a statement, as reported by Katadata on Tuesday (April 28, 2026).
He explained that passengers using public transportation, including trains, are covered by insurance provided by Jasa Raharja. The claims handling process is currently underway.
The compensation amounts refer to Finance Ministry Regulation (PMK) No. 15/2017 on Compensation and Mandatory Contributions for Passenger Accident Liability Funds covering public transportation on land, rivers/lakes, ferries/crossings, sea, and air transport.
Under Article 3 of the regulation, the heirs of deceased victims are entitled to compensation of Rp50 million.
Meanwhile, victims who suffer permanent disabilities are entitled to compensation calculated based on a certain percentage of the death compensation amount.
Victims requiring medical treatment are eligible for reimbursement of medical and treatment expenses of up to Rp20 million.
In addition, victims are entitled to first-aid compensation of up to Rp1 million, as well as ambulance or transportation costs to healthcare facilities of up to Rp500,000.
