The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of domestic and international airline passengers both decreased in September 2025.
BPS detailed that the total number of domestic airline passengers reached 4.84 million people. This passenger volume decreased by 5.13% month-on-month (mom) from 5.1 million people in August 2025.
The decrease in passenger numbers occurred at all observed major airports, namely Ngurah Rai Denpasar Airport by 15.07%, Kualanamu-Medan by 6.62%, Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang by 5.46%, Hasanuddin-Makassar by 3.43%, and Juanda-Surabaya by 1.97%.
BPS stated that the largest number of domestic passengers was recorded at Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport, reaching 1.3 million people or 27.40% of the total domestic passengers. This was followed by Juanda-Surabaya with 402.3 thousand people or 8.31%.
Cumulatively from January–September 2025, the number of domestic air transport passengers was 44.2 million people, a decrease of nearly 7% compared to the same period last year (year-on-year/yoy), which was 47.52 million people.
The decrease in international routes was also quite significant, namely 6.96% (mom) to 1.8 million people in September 2025.
The decrease in passenger numbers occurred at all monitored major airports, namely Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport by 17.37%, Ngurah Rai-Denpasar by 9.02%, Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang by 7.21%, Kualanamu-Medan by 1.95%, and Juanda-Surabaya by 1.79%.
Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport recorded the highest number of international passengers, namely 755.3 thousand people or 42.31% of the total outbound passengers. This was followed by Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport with 687.3 thousand people or 38.5%.
However, the cumulative number of international route passengers during January–September 2025 actually increased. Including both national and foreign flights, the total number of passengers reached 15.26 million people, an increase of 8.87% (yoy) from the previous 14.02 million people.
