A report by Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) compiles several negative experiences encountered by commuters in the Jabodetabek area during 2023.
Commuters refer to individuals who travel to and from a destination outside their administrative area within a single day. The age of commuters in this BPS sample is above 5 years old.
The most common negative experience reported by Jabodetabek commuters was severe traffic congestion, selected by 67.3% of respondents. Residents of East Jakarta experienced this the most, with 70.9% of respondents in that city selecting this option.
Next was disruption to modes of transportation, at 25.7%. Residents of Bekasi Regency selected this the most, at 34.6%.
Other experiences included accidents (6.5%) and crime (1.4%).
The least frequent but still dangerous experience was sexual harassment, selected by 0.4% of total respondents. East Jakarta residents experienced this the most, at 1.1% or 5,523 respondents.
This survey, detailed in the report Jabodetabek Commuter Statistics, covered a sample target of 19,050 households in 1,905 Census Blocks spread across South Jakarta, East Jakarta, Central Jakarta, West Jakarta, North Jakarta, Bogor Regency, Bekasi Regency, Bogor City, Bekasi City, Depok City, Tangerang Regency, Tangerang City, and South Tangerang City.
The sample was selected using a two-stage sampling method conducted in October 2023.
