According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia's total export value in 2024 reached US$266.53 billion.
This figure is a free on board (FOB) value, meaning the price of the goods up to the point they are loaded onto the departing vessel, excluding shipping costs to the destination country and insurance.
Analysis by commodity group shows that Indonesia's largest export value in 2024 came from mineral products.
Referring to the Indonesian Customs Tariff Book (BTKI), the mineral product commodity group includes commodities such as iron ore, copper, nickel, aluminum, zinc, tin, coal, other mineral fuels and their distillates, and so on.
Here is a breakdown of Indonesia's FOB export value by 21 commodity groups in 2024, ordered from largest to smallest:
1. Mineral products: US$64.28 billion
2. Base metals and articles thereof: US$44.2 billion
3. Vegetable/animal fats, oils, and waxes: US$26.86 billion
4. Electrical machinery and equipment, and parts thereof: US$22.11 billion
5. Chemical or related industry products: US$17.82 billion
6. Processed food, beverages, alcoholic beverages, tobacco: US$12.73 billion
7. Vehicles, aircraft, vessels: US$12.26 billion
8. Textiles and textile goods: US$12.05 billion
9. Pearls, precious/semi-precious stones, precious/semi-precious metals: US$8.88 billion
10. Plastics, rubber, and articles thereof: US$8.3 billion
11. Pulp, paper and articles thereof: US$8.06 billion
12. Footwear, umbrellas, artificial flowers: US$7.63 billion
13. Vegetable products: US$5.13 billion
14. Live animals; animal products: US$4.69 billion
15. Wood and wood articles, wickerwork: US$4.08 billion
16. Miscellaneous manufactured articles: US$3.58 billion
17. Optical, photographic, musical instruments, clocks: US$1.53 billion
18. Leather, tanned leather and articles thereof: US$1.44 billion
19. Articles of stone, cement, mica, ceramic, glass: US$855.31 million
20. Weapons and ammunition; parts and accessories: US$21.67 million
21. Works of art, collector's items and antiques: US$21.58 million
In terms of distribution, 73.17% of Indonesia's exports were sent to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries.
"Within this group, the largest contributors to national foreign exchange earnings are China, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore. These five countries contributed 50.56% to national exports," said BPS in its report.
