According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's fresh fish exports have been shrinking in recent years.
In 2012, Indonesia was still able to export 91,700 tons of fresh/chilled caught fish, valued at US$205.71 million.
However, performance weakened thereafter, and by 2023 export volume was only 48,100 tons, valued at US$106.68 million.
Cumulatively, during the 2012-2023 period, the volume of national fresh fish exports decreased by 47.5% and the export value fell by 48.1%.
During this period, Indonesia exported more fresh fish to Asian countries, with the main consumers being Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan.
Export volume to Malaysia has remained relatively stagnant, while exports to Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan have gradually decreased.
