According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's textile import volume from January to May 2024 reached 839,700 tons.
This volume increased by 10.2% compared to imports from January to May of the previous year (year-on-year/yoy).
Furthermore, the value of Indonesia's textile imports rose by 1.9% (yoy) from US$3.43 billion in January-May 2023 to US$3.5 billion in January-May 2024.
The figures above represent the volume and value of imports of category XI goods, namely textiles and textile products, with Harmonized System codes (HS codes) 50 to 63.
Category XI consists of a combination of commodities including silk, wool, cotton, textile fibers, filaments, staple fibers, woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, carpets, knitted clothing/accessories, non-knitted clothing/accessories, and various other textile products including used clothing.
This increase in import flow coincides with the issuance of Trade Minister Regulation (Permendag) Number 8 of 2024, which came into effect in mid-May 2024.
This regulation provides relaxation or ease of import permits for various commodity groups, including ready-made garments, clothing accessories, textiles, and textile products.
