Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) conducted a survey on trusted domestic information sources among Indonesian citizens.

The results show that a majority, or 38.2% of respondents, trust mainstream media the most – including television, print media, online media, and social media accounts of news outlets.

Next, 20.3% of respondents trust information from family, friends, and their close circles.

Meanwhile, 17.3% trust information from government institutions, and only 5.8% rely on information from social media influencers.

"This is a critical note for government institutions that tend to rely on influencers in handling viral issues related to their institution," said the Litbang Kompas team in their report on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Although mainstream media remains the primary source of information, Litbang Kompas found that respondents access social media more frequently, with a proportion of 55.7%.

Furthermore, 32.9% of respondents frequently access television, 4.6% access online news sites, 0.7% access radio, 0.5% access newspapers, and 0.2% access magazines.

This Litbang Kompas survey involved 1,200 respondents randomly selected using a stratified systematic sampling method across 38 Indonesian provinces.

Data collection was conducted from May 27 to June 2, 2024, through face-to-face interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 2.83%, with a 95% confidence level under simple random sampling conditions.
