Indonesia's Middle Class News Dominated by Economic Concerns

From various reports on the middle class issue in Indonesia, most of them express concerns about economic pressures.

This is evident from the Databoks research report titled "Social Media Listening Report 2026: The Middle Class on the Brink of Vulnerability".

Databoks analyzed online media reports on the middle class issue that emerged during the period of January 2025 to February 2026.

The results show that out of approximately 6,900 media articles collected, nearly half of them, or 47.47%, contained negative concern.

These concerns are generally related to the economic pressures faced by the middle class, especially regarding weakening purchasing power, rising living costs, the threat of layoffs, job uncertainty, and the risk of increasing inequality and poverty.

Then, 16.67% of the news contained positive support.

This positive support generally highlights policies and programs that are considered helpful to society, such as economic growth and poverty reduction according to BPS data, health services through BPJS, social and educational assistance like KIP Kuliah, the digitization of public services that facilitate public access, and support for SMEs and business sectors.
