K-pop artists and K-drama actors/actresses wield considerable influence over their fans, including their purchasing decisions.
A survey conducted by Katadata Insight Center (KIC) and Zigi.id revealed that 48% of respondents stated they buy products recommended by K-pop artists or K-drama actors/actresses.
Conversely, 52% of respondents said they do not buy products recommended by their favorite South Korean artists.
Recently, there has been a surge in K-pop artists and K-drama actors/actresses becoming brand ambassadors for consumer products, ranging from clothing and food to beverages and skincare.
Companies hope that brand ambassadors will attract fans and encourage them to trust and purchase their products.
However, the survey also found that price remains the primary consideration for most consumers (71.3%), while only 20.4% of respondents cited brand ambassadors or idols as a factor in their purchasing decisions.
This online survey was conducted from June 20-29, 2022, involving 1,609 Indonesian respondents who enjoy Korean entertainment. The majority of respondents were Gen Z and Millennials, spread across Indonesia, with the highest concentration in Java.
