Online news is consumed by a significant number of Indonesian citizens. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), involving 10,000 respondents, 26.7% regularly access online news portals for information.

Interestingly, this survey also found that a majority, or 49%, of respondents would not continue reading news articles containing typos or typing errors.

Furthermore, 47.1% of respondents stated they would not continue reading news articles that did not include the author's name. Additionally, 54% of respondents found issue with news articles quoting anonymous sources or lacking sources altogether.

These indicators suggest that Indonesian citizens are quite selective in their consumption of online news content.

This habit is necessary to avoid disinformation (false information deliberately spread to deceive) and misinformation (inaccurate or incorrect information that may be spread unintentionally).

Disinformation and misinformation can also be avoided by carefully examining the website address and media company serving as the news source, and then verifying the information by reading several other media outlets.

The survey involved 10,000 respondents spread across Indonesia's 34 provinces. Respondents were members of households aged 13-70 years old who had accessed the internet within the last three months.
