Yogyakarta Achieved the Highest National Digital Literacy Index in 2022

The people of Yogyakarta Special Region in Indonesia demonstrate the highest proficiency in utilizing digital information and communication technology among all Indonesian provinces.

This is according to a survey report, "Status Literasi Digital di Indonesia 2022" (Status of Digital Literacy in Indonesia 2022), a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and the Katadata Insight Center (KIC).

The report indicates that Yogyakarta's digital literacy index in 2022 reached a score of 3.64 out of 5.

"This score is similar to the previous year, maintaining its first-place ranking," stated the Kominfo team in their report.

However, Yogyakarta's digital literacy index score decreased by 0.07 points compared to 2021, when it scored 3.71.

Several provinces remained in the top 10 with the highest indices in both 2021 and 2022, including West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and West Papua.

Conversely, there was a shift in rankings among provinces on Java Island, such as Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, and East Java in 2022.

"Four regions on Java Island showed significant changes this year, placing them among the top 10 provinces with the highest index values in the country," stated the Kominfo team.

Throughout 2021 and 2022, all provinces on Java Island, except Yogyakarta, experienced an increase in ranking. Similarly, all provinces in Eastern Indonesia saw their rankings rise.

The Kominfo and KIC developed this index based on a survey of 10,000 internet users aged 13-70, spread across 34 provinces and 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia.

The survey was conducted from August to September 2022 through face-to-face interviews. Sampling was done using a multistage random sampling method, with a margin of error of approximately 0.98% and a 95% confidence interval.

Respondents represented diverse backgrounds, including housewives, entrepreneurs, employees, students, farmers, and others. The complete survey report can be accessed and downloaded via this link: https://survei.literasidigital.id/
