Ahead of the Second 2019 Presidential Debate: The Jokowi-Ma'ruf Pair Remains Ahead of Prabowo-Sandi

Aggregate data from 10 survey institutions between December 2018 and January 2019 show that the electability of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf presidential candidate pair remains higher than that of their rival, Prabowo-Sandi, as shown in the graph below. Of the 5 institutions that conducted surveys after the first debate—LSI Denny JA, Indomatrik, Populi Center, Indonesia Election and Strategic (IndEX), and Celebes Research Center (CRC)—the pair numbered 01 (Jokowi-Ma'ruf) consistently maintained a lead over the pair numbered 02 (Prabowo-Sandi).

The latest CRC survey, conducted from January 23-31, 2019, shows Jokowi-Ma'ruf leading with 56.1% of the vote, while Prabowo-Sandi received only 31.7%. The remaining 12.2% were undecided. Based on these survey results, the Prabowo-Sandi campaign team needs to significantly intensify their efforts to close the gap in the two months leading up to the election on April 17, 2019.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) is scheduled to hold the second 2019 Presidential Debate on February 17, 2019, at 8:00 PM WIB at the Hotel Sultan, Jakarta. The debate's theme will focus on infrastructure, energy and food, natural resources, and the environment.
