Over the past two months, the electability of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin (Jokowi-Ma'ruf) and Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno (Prabowo-Sandiaga) has fluctuated. However, this has not significantly altered the electability gap between the two pairs, with Jokowi-Ma'ruf maintaining a lead of over 20%.
According to an LSI Denny JA survey conducted in November 2018, Jokowi-Ma'ruf garnered 53.2% of the vote, while their competitor received only 31.2%. The remaining 15.6% of respondents either did not answer or kept their choice confidential. Therefore, the Prabowo-Sandiaga campaign team needs to work hard to close the gap in the four months leading up to the presidential election on April 17, 2019.
As the incumbent, Jokowi benefits from the widespread recognition of several of his key programs, with awareness exceeding 50%. These six programs include the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP), Indonesia Healthy Card (KIS), subsidized rice (rastra), infrastructure development, and land certificate distribution. In contrast, his challenger has not had the opportunity to popularize their programs to the same extent during the two months of campaigning. The opposing pair has largely focused on criticizing government policies without offering solutions or outlining their own programs.
