The Indonesian General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) has identified violence based on ethnicity, religion, race, and intergroup conflict (SARA) as one of seven vulnerability issues in the security sub-dimension of the upcoming general election (pemilu), frequently found at the provincial level.

North Maluku ranked second, with a score of 77.16 points. Yogyakarta followed in third place as a province vulnerable to the politicization of SARA, with a score of 14.81 points.

"These are the six most vulnerable provinces when we talk about the issue of the politicization of SARA," said Lolly at the "Launching of the Mapping of Election Vulnerabilities and Simultaneous Elections 2024: Strategic Issue of SARA Politicization" event on Tuesday (10/10/2023).

Lolly also explained that four indicators were used in mapping vulnerabilities in the issue of SARA politicization. These include SARA-based violence, rejection of candidates based on SARA reasons, and SARA-charged campaigning on social media and in public places.

Therefore, Bawaslu calls on all parties, both at the provincial and district/city levels, to collaborate in preventing the politicization of SARA in the upcoming 2024 General Election.
