Public Satisfaction with the Performance of Four Key Government Areas Increasing

A survey by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) shows that public satisfaction with four key areas—the economy, law, politics, and maritime affairs—increased in August 2016 compared to the previous year. During the two years of President Joko Widodo's leadership, the highest satisfaction was seen in the maritime sector, reaching 63.9 percent, followed by the legal sector at 62.1 percent and politics at 53 percent.

Although also experiencing an increase, the economic sector remains a challenge for the government because public satisfaction has not yet reached 50 percent, only reaching 46.8 percent. According to CSIS Executive Director Philips Vermonte, the weak public confidence in the government's ability to raise economic growth to 6-7 percent and improve the investment climate is a challenge for the government.

Researcher at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Arya Fernandes, also stated that although an increase in satisfaction occurred across almost all indicators, the Jokowi administration still faces challenges in the legal and economic sectors due to corruption and economic inequality.
