The latest survey by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) shows that the electability of presidential and vice-presidential candidates (capres-cawapres) number 02, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, increased in December 2023 compared to the survey two months prior.
LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan stated that Prabowo-Gibran's electability was also the highest, reaching 45.6% in the survey conducted from December 3-5, 2023. This figure is up 9.7 points from the October 2023 electability survey, which stood at 35.9%.
"These figures for Prabowo-Gibran show an increase compared to October 2023," said Djayadi during a press conference on LSI's YouTube channel on Sunday (December 10, 2023).
The second highest electability belonged to candidates number 03, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, at 23.8%. This figure is down compared to the October 2023 survey, which recorded 26.1%.
Closely competing below them are candidates number 01, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin), who obtained 22.3% in the December 2023 survey. However, Anies-Cak Imin's electability increased from 19.6% in October 2023, although they remain in third place.
According to Djayadi, the decrease in Ganjar's electability caused an increase in Prabowo's electability. The Indonesian Minister of Defence is also seen to have benefited from an increase in electability from those who previously had not decided on a candidate.
"So, respondents who in the October survey had not yet decided, have now largely shifted to Prabowo, and part of Prabowo's increase comes from the decrease in Ganjar's votes," said Djayadi.
Meanwhile, he continued, Anies did not experience a negative impact from the rise in Prabowo's votes, but also saw an increase in his electability.
The survey was conducted from December 3-5, 2023, a few days before the first presidential-vice presidential debate on December 12, 2023.
The survey targeted 1,426 respondents with a distribution representing the demographic population across all regions of Indonesia. Respondents were Indonesian citizens aged 17 years and older or married and possessing a telephone, representing approximately 83% of the national population.
Selected respondents were interviewed by telephone by trained interviewers. The sample selection for the survey used the random digit dialing (RDD) method. RDD is a technique for selecting samples through the random generation of telephone numbers.
The survey sample was selected through a process of random telephone number generation, validation, and screening. The margin of error of the survey is estimated to be around 2.6% at a 95% confidence level.
