The postponement of the simultaneous regional elections (Pilkada) in 2024 has resulted in 24 governors whose terms will end before the general election.
The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), Tito Karnavian, has inaugurated five acting governors on May 15, 2022. Of the seven governors whose terms end this year, five have already been inaugurated.
The five inaugurated individuals are Ridwan Djamaluddin as the Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands, Al Muktabar as the Acting Governor of Banten, Hamka Hendra Noer as the Acting Governor of Gorontalo, and Paulus as the Acting Governor of West Papua. These five acting governors replaced five governors whose terms ended in mid-May 2022.
Besides the five governors whose terms expired this month, there are two more governors whose terms will also end this year. These two regional heads are Aceh Governor Nova Iransyah, whose term ends on July 5, 2022, and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, whose term ends on October 16, 2022.
