Constitutional Justice Suhartoyo has been officially appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) replacing Anwar Usman on Thursday (9/11/2023).
Suhartoyo is scheduled to be inaugurated as Chief Justice of the MK next Monday (13/11/2023).
According to Deputy Chief Justice of the MK Saldi Isra, the determination of the new chief is a follow-up to the decision of the MK Honorary Council which removed Anwar Usman from his position as chief due to a serious ethical violation in the case of the presidential and vice-presidential minimum age limit.
Saldi explained that previously only he and Suhartoyo were willing to be candidates for the new chief of the MK.
Then, based on the results of discussions in the closed Plenary Meeting of Judges, Suhartoyo was finally agreed upon as the Chief Justice of the MK.
"That is the manifestation of our agreement from the meeting room," said Saldi in reading the meeting's decision, as reported by Katadata.co.id, Thursday (9/11/2023).
Before his inauguration, Suhartoyo had assets worth Rp14.74 billion at the end of 2022.
That figure is recorded in the State Officials' Wealth Report (LHKPN) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) which Suhartoyo reported on March 14, 2023.
Based on its components, the new MK chief justice's assets consist mostly of cash and cash equivalents, with a total value of Rp7.26 billion.
Then there is land and buildings amounting to Rp6.48 billion. Suhartoyo is recorded as owning 8 plots of land and buildings spread across Sleman, Metro, Tangerang, and Central Lampung.
This Constitutional Justice from Lampung owns a number of cars with a total reported value of Rp810 million. These cars include a 1983 Toyota Hardtop Jeep, a 1960 Jeep Wilys, and a 2018 Alphard Type G.
Suhartoyo's other movable assets recorded amounted to Rp188 million. Until the end of 2022, he was not recorded as having any debts.
