This is a country aided by USAID, an agency Trump will disband.

United States President Donald Trump will shut down the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

According to CNN Indonesia, Trump reportedly plans to merge USAID with the Department of State under his administration's "America First" policy.

According to Trump, who was recently inaugurated as president, he will prioritize domestic interests.

USAID is the largest provider of foreign aid in the US, according to data from the federal website Foreignassistance.gov, processed by Statista.

This data shows that USAID disbursed nearly US$44 billion in fiscal year 2023. Ukraine received the most aid from USAID, at US$16.02 billion.

Statista explains that this amount represents more than 60% of all US foreign aid listed on the website.

"This agency only disburses economic aid, while military aid is handled by the Department of State and the Department of Defense," Statista wrote on Monday (January 3, 2025).

After Ukraine, USAID payments were largely given to countries in the Middle East and Africa in 2023.

Specifically, Ethiopia received US$1.67 billion; Jordan US$1.19 billion; Afghanistan US$1.08 billion; and Somalia US$1.04 billion.

Aid to other countries was less than US$1 billion.

Statista also notes that US aid recipients can be found throughout Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe.

"Along with State/Defense Department spending, which is more focused on the Middle East due to the military aid component, this represents the largest disbursement of US foreign aid," Statista wrote.
