Monetary Politics, the Most Frequent Violation Type in the 2024 Regional Elections

Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) conducted a survey on violations of regulations known or experienced by the public during the 2024 Regional Elections (Pilkada).

The results showed that 11.1% of respondents reported the practice of money politics.

"Although seemingly small, as a fact experienced by respondents, money politics is proven to still color the political landscape in Indonesia," said the Litbang Kompas team in their report on Monday, December 16, 2024.

Furthermore, 2.9% of respondents experienced intimidation or coercion, and 1.9% of respondents assessed that there was potential data manipulation because they were not included in the voter list.

Meanwhile, 5% of respondents answered "don't know," and 79.1% felt there were no violations in the implementation of the 2024 Pilkada.

Litbang Kompas also found that 86.5% of respondents were satisfied with the Pilkada process in their respective regions. This comprises 14.7% who were very satisfied and 71.8% who were satisfied.

On the other hand, 12.1% of respondents were dissatisfied with the Pilkada process in their regions. The details are 11.4% dissatisfied and 0.7% very dissatisfied.

"Although marked by several dynamics, the public's satisfaction with the Pilkada process is an important social capital for the nation as it looks towards the future of Indonesian democracy," wrote Litbang Kompas.

This survey involved 625 respondents from 38 provinces, randomly selected from the Litbang Kompas panel, according to the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from December 2-5, 2024, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 3.92% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
