LSI Survey: Public Satisfaction with Presidential Performance Remains Relatively Static

Based on survey results from the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI), public satisfaction with the performance of President Joko Widodo is relatively stagnant. A recorded 67.5% of the public expressed satisfaction with Jokowi's performance in May 2022.

LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan stated that although the May 2022 survey showed a majority (67.5%) expressing satisfaction, there was no significant increase or decrease in satisfaction with the president's performance over the past three months.

"So it's not decreasing, nor is it significantly strengthening," said Djayadi in a virtual discussion via the Indonesian Survey Institute's YouTube channel on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

Looking back, satisfaction with Jokowi's performance was 72% in November 2021. This dropped to 71.4% in December 2021, then to 65.9% in February 2022, and rose slightly to 67.5% in May 2022.

"In May 2022, there was a slight increase in absolute figures, around 1.6%. But if we look at it, 1.6% falls within the margin of error," he explained.

Based on demographics, those dissatisfied with Jokowi's performance were mostly from Sundanese and Madurese ethnic groups. In terms of education, a majority of respondents from all educational levels—high to low—expressed satisfaction.

Regionally, majorities in both rural and urban areas expressed satisfaction with the president's performance. However, Banten, DKI Jakarta, and West Java provinces showed lower satisfaction levels than other regions.

This survey was conducted from May 10-14, 2022, involving 1,273 respondents. Respondents were aged 17 or older, or married, and owned a telephone/cell phone.

The sample was taken using random digit dialing (RDD), a process of randomly generating telephone numbers. The survey's margin of error is 2.8% with a 95% confidence level, assuming simple random sampling.
