Ecological disasters in the form of floods and landslides struck three provinces in Sumatra, namely Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra, at the end of November 2025.

As of Tuesday (16/12/2025), the government is still working to restore 52 affected districts in these three provinces.

A survey conducted by Litbang Kompas (Kompas Research and Development) shows that more respondents (37.4%) consider infrastructure damage to be the main obstacle in disaster management in Sumatra.

According to the Litbang Kompas survey, here are some of the biggest obstacles in current disaster management in Sumatra:

Extreme weather: 11.9%
Logistical shortages: 10%
Slow response: 9.6%
Lack of coordination: 9.2%
Lack of volunteers: 6.1%
Vast affected area: 4.8%
Limited transportation access: 1.2%
Others: 0.8%
Don't know: 9%

Nevertheless, public confidence in the government's capacity to handle this disaster is quite high.

Litbang Kompas noted that 66.5% of respondents believe the government is capable of handling the disaster from the emergency response phase to reconstruction without foreign aid.

The survey involved 510 respondents from 76 cities in 38 provinces, selected randomly according to the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from December 8-11, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.24% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
