A Katadata Insight Center (KIC) poll reveals the key characteristics and qualities presidential and vice-presidential candidates (capres-cawapres) should possess to represent young people.
The majority of young respondents, millennials and Gen Z, consider innovativeness the most important quality for capres-cawapres, with 69.6% of respondents selecting this option.
Other top qualities include honesty (69.3%) and creativity (66.7%). These three are considered the most important qualities to represent young people.
"Innovativeness (69.6%), honesty (69.3%), and creativity (66.7%) are essential qualities for presidential and vice-presidential candidates to effectively represent young people," the research team wrote.
Decisiveness, chosen by 59% of respondents, is also needed to represent young people. Other important qualities include experience (51.7%), humility (48.1%), and charisma (42.9%). 1.9% of respondents chose other qualities.
This survey on the qualities of capres-cawapres considered representative of young people used a multiple answer (MA) format, allowing respondents to select more than one option. The survey results are compiled in the report, *Politics Through the Eyes of Young People: Perceptions and Trends of Gen Z & Millennials Towards Presidential Candidates, Political Parties, and the 2024 Election Campaign*.
The survey involved 1,005 respondents proportionally distributed across Indonesia. The majority of respondents were from Java (54.4%), Sumatra (22.5%), and Sulawesi (7.8%). Respondents from Kalimantan, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku Papua ranged from 3.6% to 6.4%.
Respondents consisted of Gen Z (ages 17-26, 50.4%) and millennials (ages 27-42, 49.6%). The sample comprised 60.6% male and 39.4% female respondents.
Data collection was conducted online from October 11-17, 2023, using tSurvey's data collection platform and a non-probability sampling method. The survey has a margin of error of approximately 3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
