Kompas Research and Development: 62.3% of the Public Agree on Maintaining the 2024 Election

Discussions about postponing the general election (pemilu) have been widely raised by several political elites. They claim that the proposal stems from public desire.

Even a recommendation from big data analysis has been used by politicians to strengthen the argument for postponing the election. However, surveys show that the majority of the public actually wants the election to proceed as scheduled in 2024.

This is in line with the results of a Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) survey in March 2022, which showed that the majority of the public wants the election to be held as scheduled. A recorded 62.3% of respondents agreed that the election should still be held on February 14, 2024.

25.1% of respondents said they didn't mind if the election was postponed by 2-3 years or not. Meanwhile, only 10.3% agreed that the 2024 election should be postponed by 2-3 years to maintain the economic recovery agenda following the pandemic. The remaining 2.3% answered "don't know."

The survey also showed the attitudes of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Prabowo's voters in the 2019 Presidential Election towards the 2024 election. The results show that the majority of Jokowi and Prabowo's voters share the same view that the 2024 election should still be held.

This survey was conducted on 1,002 respondents aged 17 and above throughout Indonesia via telephone. The survey, conducted from March 7-12, 2022, used a method with a 95% confidence level and a margin of error of approximately 3.1%.
