Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Banggai Laut Rises 6.13% in the Last 5 Years

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Banggai Laut Regency, Central Sulawesi reached 16.64% in 2025.

This figure increased by 0.85% from the previous year's 15.79%, while over the last 5 years it has risen by 6.13%.

Indonesia's average PoU in 2025 was 7.89%. This means that the PoU in Banggai Laut Regency is higher than the national average.

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) defines PoU as a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for normal, active, and healthy living.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition security conditions.

This means that the residents of Banggai Laut Regency who consume food but do not meet their energy needs account for up to 16.64% of the total population.

Compared to the other 12 regencies/cities in Central Sulawesi Province, Banggai Laut Regency ranks 11th in terms of PoU. The region with the lowest PoU (top rank) is Palu City (6.41%) and the highest (last rank) is Banggai Islands Regency (19.4%).
