6 Reasons Why the Public Believes Jokowi Will Fail to Build the New Capital City

18.9% of respondents believe that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will fail in building the new capital city in East Kalimantan. Six main reasons emerged from the open-ended questions regarding the potential failure of the project. The most prominent reason cited was the extremely high cost associated with relocating the capital (43.3%).

Other significant reasons included the extremely long time required (29%) and the perception that relocating the capital equates to relocating all aspects of the nation (12.9%). Respondents also expressed pessimism about Jokowi's ability to successfully realize the capital relocation (4%). Finally, 1.3% cited obstacles related to obtaining permits from the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).

The Indo Barometer survey, titled "Public Evaluation and National Issues in Jokowi-Amin's First 100 Days," was conducted across 34 provinces from January 9-15, 2020. The survey involved 1,200 respondents, with a margin of error of approximately 2.83% and a 95% confidence level.

The survey employed a multistage random sampling method. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews with respondents using questionnaires.
