Who is the Most Suitable Vice Presidential Candidate for Jokowi in the 2019 Presidential Election?

The registration period for presidential and vice-presidential candidates (capres and cawapres) in the 2019 election took place from August 4-10, 2018. However, no presidential and vice-presidential candidates have officially declared their pairings and registered with the General Election Commission (KPU). Ongoing negotiations and lobbying between political parties mean that the registration of presidential and vice-presidential candidates will likely take place towards the end of the registration period.

From the incumbent's camp, the vice-presidential candidate is still being considered, although a list of names is already available to Jokowi. According to a survey by Alvara Beyond Insight, Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) and Mahfud MD are the most suitable candidates to accompany Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the 2019 presidential election. Using an open-ended question method, Cak Imin's electability as Jokowi's vice-presidential candidate reached 18.7% of the vote, and Mahfud MD reached 18.5%.

The Alvara Research survey was conducted from July 20-28, 2018, using face-to-face interviews and involving 1,142 respondents spread across Indonesia. Data collection used a multistage random sampling method with a margin of error of +/- 2.95%.
