According to a survey by Saiful Mujani Research & Consulting (SMRC), 37 percent of voters who support the Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) believe in the resurgence of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI). This is the highest percentage compared to supporters of other parties. Second is the Partai Gerindra, at 20 percent, followed by the PAN at 18 percent.
SMRC Program Director Sirojudin Abbas stated that the current belief in a PKI resurgence is not a natural phenomenon, but rather the result of opinion mobilization by certain political forces, particularly supporters of Prabowo. "If this belief in a resurgence were natural, it would be found proportionally among supporters of both Prabowo and Joko Widodo," he explained.
This national survey, conducted from September 3-10, 2017, used a multistage random sampling method to select 1,220 respondents aged 17 or older, or who were married. 1,057 respondents (87 percent) provided valid interviews. The survey's average margin of error is +/- 3.1 percent with a 95 percent confidence level.
