Survey: Only 32% of Indonesians are Optimistic about the Political and Legal Situation

A Good News From Indonesia (GNFI) survey reveals that only 32.1% of respondents are optimistic about the future of Indonesia's political and legal landscape. This sector encompasses non-discriminatory law enforcement, clean and transparent governance, and low corruption.

This percentage is the lowest among all sectors surveyed. For instance, 51% of respondents are optimistic about future social life, including equal opportunities for men and women, freedom of expression, and tolerance.

Optimism regarding the economy and health, as well as basic needs, is considerably higher, at 64.6% and 75.1% respectively. These sectors encompass balanced nutrition, access to healthcare, and employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, the sector with the highest respondent optimism is education and culture (83.9%). Respondents believe that Indonesian cultural products, such as handicrafts, music, fashion, and film, can gain international recognition, and that access to quality education will be available.

GNFI conducted the survey among 800 respondents from July 8-15, 2021. 64.4% of respondents were Generation Z (under 25 years old), while the remainder were Generation Y (25-40 years old).
