What Kind of Political Campaign Content Do Young People Like? This is the Survey

According to a survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), the most popular political campaign content on social media among Indonesian youth features achievements and development results, such as roads, dams, bridges, and others.

Of the 1,005 young respondents, a majority or 53.6% were interested in these themes.

A significant number of respondents also liked campaign content showcasing program profiles or the political figures' vision and mission (42.5%).

Furthermore, 39.6% liked content profiling the regions and communities led/represented by political figures, and 37.4% preferred content featuring formal activities of political figures, such as regional visits, dialogues, meetings, and others.

Campaign content highlighting individual achievements was favored by 31.5% of respondents, and informal activities of political figures by 26.9%.

The least popular content included endorsements from celebrities and greetings for national holidays, with proportions as shown in the graph.

Note that this survey used a multiple-answer format, allowing respondents to select more than one answer.

The survey involved 1,005 respondents proportionally distributed across Indonesia. The majority were from Java (54.4%), Sumatra (22.5%), and Sulawesi (7.8%).

Respondents from Kalimantan, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku Papua represented approximately 3.6-6.4%.

All respondents were young people, comprising Gen Z aged 17-26 years (50.4%), and millennials aged 27-42 years (49.6%).

60.6% of respondents were male and 39.4% female.

Data collection was conducted online from October 11-17, 2023, using tSurvey's data collection platform with a non-probability sampling method.

The survey has a margin of error of +/- 3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
