There are 204 pieces of content violating the 2024 Election regulations, with the highest number found on Instagram.

The Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) reported 204 instances of election-related violations on social media as of January 2, 2024, the 36th day of the 2024 General Election campaign.

Bawaslu's Coordinator for Prevention, Public Participation, and Public Relations, Lolly Suhenty, explained that these findings were based on cyber surveillance using Bawaslu's Intelligent Media Monitoring system and analysis of public complaints.

Based on the platform, the most violations related to the 2024 Election were found on Instagram (72 instances).

Facebook followed with 69 instances, then Twitter/X (54 instances), TikTok (7 instances), and YouTube (2 instances).

Lolly stated that several social media posts violated Article 280 paragraph 1 letter c of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections, in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions.

These violations included hate speech, politicization of ethnicity, religion, race, and intergroup relations (SARA), and the spread of false news.

Following these findings, Lolly stated that 185 instances have been forwarded to the Ministry of Communication and Information for takedown.

Bawaslu also urged the public to monitor online content containing hate speech, hoaxes, and the politicization of SARA in relation to the 2024 Election.

"Complaints can be submitted via email, hotline, by visiting public complaint posts, Bawaslu's social media, and the complaint page on the Jarimu Awasi Pemilu portal," said Lolly.
