Approximately 360,000 voters with disabilities participated in the 2019 Indonesian general election, the majority of whom were physically disabled.

The General Election Commission (KPU) recorded 363,200 voters with disabilities in the 2019 General Election. This number represents 0.19% of the permanent voter list (DPT) for that election, which totaled 192.82 million people.

The majority of these voters with disabilities were those with motor impairments, totaling 100,765 individuals. This group constitutes 0.05% of the total DPT for the 2019 election.

Furthermore, there were 68,246 voters with hearing impairments (0.03% of the total DPT), 61,899 voters with visual impairments (0.03%), 54,295 voters with intellectual disabilities (0.02%), and 77,995 voters with other disabilities (0.04%).

People with disabilities have the right to participate in general elections. This political right is guaranteed under Article 13 of Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities.

The following is the text of the article concerning the political rights of persons with disabilities:

a. To vote and be elected to public office;
b. To express political aspirations, both in writing and orally;
c. To choose political parties and/or individuals participating in general elections;
d. To form, become members of, and/or be officers of community organizations and/or political parties;
e. To form and join organizations of persons with disabilities and to represent persons with disabilities at the local, national, and international levels;
f. To actively participate in the general election system at all stages and/or parts of its organization;
g. To obtain accessibility to the facilities and infrastructure for organizing general elections, gubernatorial elections, regent/mayor elections, and village head elections or other similar elections; and
h. To receive political education.

Most recently, the KPU reported that 1,101,178 people with disabilities have been registered as DPT for the 2024 General Election. This number of voters with disabilities comprises 0.54% of the total 204.8 million national voters.
