Kompas Research and Development: Majority of Public Uncertain about the New House of Representatives

A Kompas Research and Development survey shows that 53.5% of respondents are not confident that the 2019-2024 House of Representatives (DPR) is capable of listening to and channeling public aspirations. Only 35.3% of respondents answered that they are confident the DPR can listen to and channel public aspirations. 11.2% of respondents did not answer.

On Tuesday (October 1st), 575 members of the 2019-2024 DPR were officially inaugurated at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta. The first plenary session also appointed five leaders from political parties with the most seats, as stipulated in the MD3 Law. Based on this regulation, Puan Maharani from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) automatically became the Speaker of the House. Her deputies are Aziz Syamsuddin from Golkar, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad from Gerindra, Rachmat Gobel from Nasdem, and Muhaimin Iskandar from PKB.

This survey was conducted from September 25th to 27th, 2019, involving 419 respondents. Respondents were at least 17 years old and selected through stratified random sampling across 17 regions in Indonesia. The survey's confidence level is 95%, with a margin of error of 4.8%.
