63 Thousand New HIV/AIDS Cases in Indonesia in 2025, the Most in East Java

Based on data from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) processed by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 63,297 new cases of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in Indonesia throughout 2025.

The Ministry of Health defines AIDS as a set of symptoms caused by the weakening of the immune system due to infection with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

In 2025, the most cases of HIV/AIDS were recorded on Java Island, particularly in East Java, West Java, and Central Java provinces.

If combined, these three provinces accounted for approximately 41% of the total new HIV/AIDS cases nationwide.

Here is a list of the 10 provinces with the most new HIV/AIDS cases throughout 2025:

1. East Java: 10,612 new cases
2. West Java: 9,212 new cases
3. Central Java: 6,057 new cases
4. DKI Jakarta: 4,353 new cases
5. North Sumatra: 3,041 new cases
6. Papua: 2,997 new cases
7. Banten: 2,289 new cases
8. Central Papua: 2,057 new cases
9. Bali: 2,024 new cases
10. South Sulawesi: 1,954 new cases

Meanwhile, the least increase in HIV/AIDS cases was recorded in West Sulawesi with 130 new cases, followed by Bengkulu with 197 cases, and North Kalimantan with 208 cases.
