3-Month Nickel Commodity Futures Price Drops to US$17,130/Ton (Tuesday, March 03, 2026)

Westmetall recorded that the 3-month forward nickel commodity futures price fell 2.45% today to US$17,130 per ton. This price drop is quite significant compared to the average price movement over the past week.

The nickel commodity price hit its highest spike this week on Monday, March 02, 2026, falling 1.84%. Meanwhile, trading since the start of the year has strengthened with a year-to-date growth of 1.27%.

Current conditions reverse the upward trend of 3-month forward nickel commodity futures prices over the past two days.

Over the past week, the 3-month forward nickel commodity futures price has grown by -1.27% with an average daily transaction price of US$17,670 per ton. Compared to the price at the start of the year, this nickel commodity price has increased by 1.27%. So far this year, the highest transaction value for nickel commodity futures was recorded at US$17,350 per ton on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Annually, the average 3-month forward nickel commodity futures price over the past five years has been on a downward trend. Meanwhile, for monthly price monitoring, transactions over the past 12 months have tended to rise. The highest monthly average nickel commodity price was recorded in January 2026 at US$18,030 per ton.

Citing previous Katadata news, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan projected that the value of nickel and its derivative exports could reach US$60 billion or around Rp927.84 trillion in 2025. This is due to the downstreaming of nickel for electric vehicles (EVs). In 2022, the value of nickel and its derivative exports reached US$34.28 billion or Rp530.1 trillion.
