Bank Indonesia closed the rupiah exchange rate at Rp 14,828 per US dollar on Friday, June 17, 2022. This represents a weakening of 87 points or 0.59% from the previous day's closing.
Over the week, the rupiah fluctuated by more than 200 points. Today, the US dollar reached its highest point. A year earlier, the highest point for the rupiah was Rp 14,959, which occurred on September 28, 2020.
Meanwhile, in the spot market, as shown on investing.com, the rupiah exchange rate has been under pressure, weakening by 1.86% over the week. Compared to 30 days earlier, the rupiah in the spot market has weakened by 1.22%. Over the past year, the rupiah in the spot market reached a high of Rp 14,750 per US dollar.
For the period January-June 2022, the rupiah exchange rate in the spot market has strengthened by 0.94% compared to the level a month ago, which was at Rp 14,685 per US dollar.
The current rupiah exchange rate does not follow the movement of most regional currencies, which are strengthening against the US dollar.
This afternoon, according to several major currencies monitored by Bank Indonesia, the South Korean won weakened by 3.67 points (+0.28%) to KRW 1,292.23 per US dollar, the Japanese yen weakened by 2.53 points (+1.91%), the Singapore dollar weakened (+0.21%), the euro weakened (+0.37%), and the Chinese yuan weakened by 0.03 points (+0.40%).
